HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) Weight Loss

The HCG Diet

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the body. It plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy pregnancy and is FDA approved for the treatment of infertility and sexual underdevelopment. It has also been used as a weight loss aid since the 1950’s. After studying obesity for 40 years, Dr. A.T.W. Simeon, an endocrinologist, carefully designed the HCG weight loss protocol. The diet protocol consists of using the HCG hormone daily, along with a calorie controlled diet consisting of lean meats, vegetables and fruits. The appetite is suppressed as the body burns fat reserves for fuel under the influence of HCG. A patient will experience a normal level of hunger at mealtime. Weight loss proceeds smoothly and there are feelings of well-being during the protocol.

Background

Dr. Simeon first studied a population of adolescent patients with obesity who improved with the help of HCG and caloric restriction. Next, he observed that during pregnancy, HCG allows the mother’s fat reserves to be accessible to the developing fetus, a protective mechanism in case of famine or starvation. He also determined there were 3 types of fat in the body: structural, reserve and abnormal, and the body will not release abnormal fat reserves unless the patient is near starvation (this is the reason most diets fail). Using these observations, he determined the use of HCG in combination with caloric restriction creates a physiology in the body similar to the pregnancy state, allowing the body to burn the hard to lose, abnormal fat reserves for fuel.

40 Days

Dr. Simeon found that patients who used HCG for at least 21 days were able to maintain their weight loss more effectively that those who did shorter courses. He determined that 3 weeks was the minimum amount of time for the body and brain chemistry to reset and get used to the new body weight, without reverting back to its previous weight. Also, for diets lasting longer than 40 days, he observed that patients could develop tolerance to the HCG hormone and they would stop losing weight.

Maintenance

Following the 40 day diet, there is a 6 week maintenance period of normal caloric intake. During this time, the body gets accustomed to its new body weight and you will gradually re-introduce certain foods, learning which foods trigger weight gain. The information obtained during maintenance can help guide your food choices and maintain your new weight for the rest of your life. Further rounds of HCG can be done if more weight loss is desired.

Getting Started

Schedule a medical evaluation with Dr. Starkman and obtain a copy of The HCG Weight Loss Cure, by Linda Prinster. You will also need a commitment of 40 days, where you will be able to use the HCG daily, without interruption, preferably without any traveling. You will also need a scale for daily weights, a food scale and a grill (e.g. George Foreman).
